My students often come to me in crisis. This project includes classic board games and puzzles such as Boggle, Jenga, Trouble, Legos and Uno that will help the children learn how to get along with peers as they play and share. The puzzles and Legos will help them calm down and concentrate. They enjoy building and coloring which helps them because focusing and staying on task for longer periods of time. They have learning disabilities and/or ADHD which makes it very difficult to make it through the school day. Once the student calms down, we can address the issue at hand; then they are able to have a meaningful discussion and return to class. When I meet with small groups, we practice social skills as well as set academic goals. The children often run into problems because they don't know how to problem solve without violence. This project will allow them practice getting along with puzzles and games. They will learn to communicate with words, practice sharing, taking turns and have fun all the while.
