These new and complete classroom sets of books will be replacing old, worn-out, or missing books and will also be used to enhance our reading program. They will benefit our students by giving them valuable pieces of literature from award-winning authors, including the biography of a young Pakistani activist for female education shot by a Taliban gunman. (She then went on to become a Nobel Prize laureate)! Great books instill a love for reading and learning. They can take them to new places and meet new people. Quality literature helps to open up their world and their minds. These classroom sets will help to improve our students' lives by exposing them to rich literary elements and experiences through the characters and through the special biography. Our students will benefit from the unique, unexpected friendships in The One and Only Ivan. It's the true story of a gorilla held captive for 27 years behind glass walls at a shopping mall. This book is the winner of the 2013 Newbery Medal and a #1 New York Times bestseller. Each book teaches valuable lessons. Finally, I will end with a quote from the inspirational Helen Keller (who loved to fill her life with friends and books): "The best and most beautiful things in the world can not be seen or even touched. They must be felt with the heart." Your donation can touch these precious students' hearts. Thank you.
