Our population is 50% African American and the other 50% Hispanic, and 40% of the total population are migrant workers. Our student body is economically disadvantage. My students arrive around 6:45AM and report to class. One of the challenges I face is the lack of parental involvement. The few that are involved are not academically equipped to assist their students with their homework. In many instances there is also a language barrier. My students are eager to learn. They are not exposed to what most of us take for granted. A good portion of my students' families are migrant workers, their income is below the poverty line.
