By having flexible seating options in my classroom, my students will be able to move about the room, be more comfortable and confident in their ability to sit with and interact with their peers. How many times do we have students tipping their chairs back, asking to sit on the floor or in the hallway simply because they are not comfortable in a traditional setting! By having bean bag chairs, my students can easily move them around the room as needed for group work, or moved off to a quiet location. The saucer chair and the lounge chairs also allow for mobility, but encourage group conversations since they have backs to their seats. Also, with having flexible seating, my classroom can become mobile and potentially moved to different locations, even outside! We know that all students learn in a variety of ways and levels, so if we can meet them with options for seating, we can help those students that do not feel successful in traditional seating and be successful where they are.
