My school is a Title I school and I teach computer science to students who are just beginning to understand computers, and now coding. Student population consists of not only high-performing students but those who have IEP's. The key to my class are the 3 P's - persistence, perseverance, and positivity. I have a Girls Who Code club that is not only teaching coding to girls but teaching them what it means to be empowered. Recently they celebrated Day of Sisterhood writing their messages of empowerment. As well, I formed the SECME club at Glades Middle. These students, both boys, and girls are poised on going on to be potential engineers, pharmacists, or even our next politician. I am trying to foster an environment of S.T.E.A.M, not just through my curriculum, but through the curriculum of others, such as the robotics and drone clubs. Through mentoring our students are learning to explore STEAM- their future.
