Students will be reading and working with TIME For Kids weekly as part of our fifth grade English Language Arts and Social Studies program. It will help them acquire new vocabulary, boost their comprehension of non-fiction text, improve their writing skills, and will help them gain new knowledge. Plus, students absolutely love it! A subscription to TIME For Kids gives students the chance to enhance and apply a wide variety of skills learned in class, and it all comes from one great resource! Donations to a class subscription of TIME For Kids will help my students, who have limited resources, be exposed to new ideas and current topics of the world, all while learning new, Common Core aligned reading, writing, and critical-thinking skills. Students will be exposed to authentic journalism written specifically for them. It also inspires students to join the national discussion on current topics. This subscription will give us access to digital articles to support readers of the 21st century. In addition it supports the needs of my students with learning disabilities by providing extra support and multiple reading levels. When students see that knowledge and information doesn't just come from textbooks, worksheets, or a teacher lecturing to them, they are truly inspired!
