It is my goal and self-proclaimed purpose to teach them skills that will make them problem-solvers, critical thinkers, and innovative designers. I would like to give my students the opportunities that they may not get ordinary, but are necessary to push them beyond their limits, outside of their mental boxes, and towards success in a global society. I will use the Raspberry Pi and micro:bit as an introduction into to computer science and a way to help students develop an understanding of inputs and outputs and the basics of programming through coding. The educational track at the feeder high school for my students is computer science. Students will be able to code by dropping and dragging blocks of code in a workspace, or use the more complex JavaScript and Python options. Micro:bit is a versatile tool for learning how to program with blocks or text and will be greatly used in my classroom for monthly STEM challenges and Science PLBs. The Raspberry Pi is a more complex and will take the coding to a higher level. It will be introduced to everyone, but will be used for advance and extended learning for students who show a greater aptitude for programming and coding. In addition to the Raspberry Pi and micro:bit, I will use the VR headset and mini Drone to raise engagement in the classroom, increase knowledge retention, and promote curiosity and wonder for my students. VR allows students to travel to and explore places anywhere in the world without leaving the classes.
