Currently, my students utilize the school iPad cart once a week. The level of engagement we achieve in that period is something I would like to replicate on a daily basis with a classroom iPad. Technology is a powerful tool for student engagement and learning. I want my students to have the opportunity to document their learning through pictures and video. I want them to share their thinking with classmates and their own families by creating presentations. Students can use the iPad to record their ideas as a pre-writing activity and then play it back countless times (a way to reach kids who struggle to remember what they want to write). They will utilize the iPad to research nonfiction topics during their All About Books writing unit. Headphones will allow them to listen to books and watch educational videos without disturbing those around them. Having a microphone attached to the headphones will allow them to better record themselves reading books or sharing their thoughts about topics during our opinion units. A headphone splitter will allow partnerships to utilize the iPad together. A protective case will ensure our treasured technology is kept safe in the hands of our young ones. Many young learners know how to use technology for entertainment, but not as a tool for thinking. I want to help my students use technology as a means to expand their thinking and to be creative.
