My fifth graders are developing their fluency and reading comprehension skills by reading children's books to book buddies in the lower grades at our school. My students practice reading the books with each other, and then once a week read the books to their book buddies in Pre-K4, Kindergarten, and First Grade. While reading, the fifth graders use question cards they created based on the reading standards to make sure their reading buddies understand what is being read. Fifth graders are practicing and developing their fluency and articulation skills while modeling verbal reading skills to the lower grade children. We have a handful of books that we have read over and over again. We would like to receive a variety of multicultural books to add to our limited collection. We are developing mentor relationships and a love of reading for life!
