Our children come from diverse families and diverse backgrounds. Children qualify for our free preschool program by failing an "intelligence test", being a child of poverty, or by having a disability. Upon entering our classroom many of our children: --do not know colors, letters, or numbers --do not speak English (or do not speak at all!) --do not understand social situations (like sharing or sitting with a group) --do not feel safe at school Throughout the year we strive to teach these skills, but above all we teach them how to be curious, care for their friends, and to love learning. These are the most important things a child needs in order to be successful in today's school environment. When children have completed our program, most: --can recognize 20-30 letters on sight and can name the sounds some of those letters make --can count to 20 --can speak in complete sentences (in English and Spanish!) --enjoy playing with their friends --LOVE coming to school!
