I have the joy and honor of working with 420 amazing students in grades 2-4 as their elementary school counselor. While all students receive preventative classroom guidance lessons in their classrooms, I work in small groups and 1:1 with students requiring additional support in my classroom. The first thing students usually say upon entering my classroom is, "Wow...this is really colorful! It's so pretty!" I want the space to be welcoming and comfortable for the students, particularly because the topics of discussion are not always the easiest or most comfortable for them. With my guidance, the students learn valuable social-emotional skills that will help them successfully navigate emotion expression and regulation, conflict resolution, family changes, social challenges and self-confidence/self-esteem.
