I teach science to a diverse group of fifth-grade children. They attend a rural public school. Some have means of accessing the Internet at home, but some still do not. I have found that they retain information much better if they search for it themselves. In addition, I would like to expose these children to the hundreds of exciting new apps that can enrich their learning! I do have a small set of four netbooks but the batteries die on these after three of my four classes. iPad batteries typically last around ten hours, making them much more useful for all-day projects.
