In the upcoming school year, I will be teaching third grade. As in all school districts across the state of Ohio, students must pass reading in order to advance to fourth grade. While this mandate is reasonable, with lack of funding from the state level, no librarian, and no budget to purchase a grade level classroom library, the students at an economic disadvantage at home are also disadvantaged at school with high interest, independent reading level books that engage them and excite them about learning to love to read. I have purchased all that I can out of my own personal funds, but would love to be able to provide these children with a classroom library that gets them excited to read books. In addition to the books, I'd love to provide them with a reading "nook" for 5-7 students with comfortable chairs, lamps and reading side tables. Help my students learn to love reading!
