I teach a kindergarten accelerated class. These students were identified from their teachers as advanced in their learning. These students are very eager to learn although they have very little resources at home and some have various levels of parental support. As their teacher, I try to provide support and resources to make learning interesting and challenging for them. We are a public school, located in one of the worst neighborhoods in Los Angeles, but I believe that these students can succeed. Many have never been outside of their community but their imaginations soar at the "what ifs" and "One day I hope I can....". Their families want the best for them but are often challenged by their own issues. Kindergarten is extremely important in planting those seeds of success and providing life long learning skills and turning them into life long learners.
