This year I would like to set up a gross motor center in my classroom. Many of the planned activities in a preschool classroom include working on fine and gross motor skills in order to prepare them for kindergarten. The students I work with tend to be farther behind developmentally and need to spend extra time working on these skills. Young children learn best through play and with your donation they will be able to explore motor movements. Students can play cooperatively as they rock in the wooden boat. Or when it is turned over they can climb, crawl, or walk, up and down the steps, learning independently. In the center, they will also have access to the foamnasium gymnasium climbing mats when students can use their imagination to climb bigger obstacles. Students with lower gross motor development can practice and learn skills on soft comfy material that is not as intimidating as outdoor play equipment. The stepping stones will be used to practice jumping as well as cooperative games and solidifying color recognition for kinesthetic learners. We are going to have a fun and engaging year!
