Over 90% students are from low income households. In addition, our school has the highest percentage of ESL/Spanish speaking students in the district. Most students read below the grade level. Almost all of my students have the goal of going to college or technical school after graduation. Reading below grade level makes higher education an uphill battle. According to research, students who read for pleasure or recreation will increase their reading level.
