They are caring young individuals who face many adversities due do their families' economic status. Nonetheless, they are, like most children their ages The school they attend services 430 students, 99% of whom qualify for reduced-price or free lunch. Hence, the school is located in a neighborhood with many challenges such as abandoned and boarded up homes, absentee landlords and high crime rates. Our school does attempt to make up for the lack of safe and structured activities in the community by offering after school and summer programs for students and evening classes for parents. These programs are possible thanks to the healthy partnerships that have been fostered with organizations such as Brown University, Community Schools, EFA (English for Action) and Meeting Street School.
