The world's future innovators are in our classrooms now. As a teacher I continually work towards fostering the inquisitive minds of the students I teach. So much of what we do in class focuses around the STEM fields, where it's important to find multiple ways to represent this learning. Incorporating this into books about people who have made a difference in the STEM fields is a great way to start. The books in this project explore from the depths of the ocean floor to the invention of the super-soaker water gun and all the way to the expansive unknowns in outer space. They also span a variety of reading levels and interests to fully reach all of my students. Many of the books in the collection focus on women who have changed our world in an effort to make sure that the girls in my classroom hear that they can make a difference in the world we live in. Other books focus on how the smallest things can lead to the biggest inventions, like the crayon for example. The students in my classroom would have access to these books year round for their own personal reading enjoyment and research. Classroom learning topics will be linked to the books to continually direct students to them for learning purposes.
