I am entering my 11th year of teaching the absolute best grade- KINDERGARTEN! Our days are filled with phonics, numbers, stories, and songs! I teach in a low socio-economic area in a very small town. My class is made up of many different ethnicities and backgrounds. Some students enter kindergarten with the skills they need to be successful, and some do not. We start the year learning how to hold a pencil and what letters actually are. Through a lot of hard work and diligence, we end the year reading and writing sentences! While we may not have a lot in terms of supplies and technology, we make up for in creativity! Our art and play times are so important as they allow the students to really use their creativity and give them the perfect opportunity to write about what they've made. I am a huge supporter of art and play-based learning. If my students are not having fun, I am not either!
