As a brand new teacher, I need many items to begin to build our classroom community. One of the focal points of my classroom is going to be the calming corner for students to go to when they are feeling overwhelmed or need to collect their feelings. This is not a punitive area but rather an area where they can go to calm down and reflect. I will have many motivation posters, comfortable flexible seating, and organized bins with calm down items to help students. The rolling metal organizers will house calm down kits. The corner will be decorated with calming quotes that ties into our classroom theme, space. Space is also connected to the science curriculum for the year!
