In order to ensure that my students are prepared for our technologically-driven world, we would greatly benefit from the use of ten Acer Chromebooks within our classroom. Beginning in the fifth grade, state-wide testing is administered through a computer-based testing site. Using these Acer Chromebooks NOW will allow students to become better prepared for this major change. More importantly, mostly everything that we do in life now is done through desktops, laptops, Chromebooks, or tablets. For most of my students, the use of these types of devices at home are non-existent due to living in low-income households. These Acer Chromebooks would give my students the experience needed to compete in our digital age and tap into their future goals. For example, what better way to encourage our youth to write than giving them the opportunity to create blogs on Acer Chromebooks. We all know that third grade can be one of the most difficult grades for students as well because they are expected to become independent learners and this is also the first year of standardized testing for them. Preparing for the test can become overwhelming for them but the Acer Chromebooks provide fun, engaging ways to incorporate test prep in the classroom environment. The Acer Chromebooks provide avenues to practice remedial skills for struggling students, a means of enrichment through research, blog writing and even computer coding for advanced students, as well as a way to provide extra practice for English language learners to apply the reading and speaking skills learned in the classroom setting. The opportunities are endless when it comes to using these devices in the classroom and with most educational software being created with technology in mind, these devices are a necessity for success in the classroom.
