RK Palacio's Wonder is a story of acceptance, character, and spans the life of a child going to school for the first time. Being that some of my students are having the same experience, this book will be something they can relate to. This novel will be used to teach the Common Core standards for 4th grade. For example, this story is told in parts from the viewpoint of several different characters. This is a standard that is first taught in 4th grade and they tend to struggle with it. This story will help to improve that complex. Reading the novel Wonder will let them know that they are not alone in the world and teach them how to be kind to each other no matter what adversity they face. It will ultimately teach life skills that will make each of them literate citizens of our community and world.
