As a class, we will read, discuss, reflect, and explore Starr's personal story in The Hate U Give. Next, we'll look to independent reading and how students can find joy in reading while increasing reading stamina. Students will choose a young adult novel written in free verse. This year we will explore how the literature we read makes mirrors to explore our own identities and opens windows to other cultures, gender norms, world perspectives, and opinions. Students will explore their own identities, investigate the experiences and identities of other adolescents, and take a critical look at our place in our world.
