STREAM integrates Science, Technology, Reading, Engineering, Art and Math. All of these subjects are part of our everyday lives. Allowing for personal connections helps motivate students to learn and achieve success. This project will integrate literacy and engineering. We need the book A Book of Bridges: Here To There and Me To You and ten Lego Duplo blocks each to work with a partner to engineer a bridge. My students will read the children's book Here to There and Me to You to examine different bridge forms and how bridges add details to our landscape. The book will examine different types of bridges and look at the multiple meanings associated with bridges. Through the reading of this story, students will learn that although bridges help us to get from place to place, they actually bring people together. After reading the book, students will then become engineers, working in teams of two to create a bridge out of Lego Duplo blocks. Students will each select 10 Legos, and then bring their Legos together to try to build a bridge.
