Students often learn concepts at varying paces, as not all students will demonstrate understanding at the same time. Following the Guided Math Workshop model, students are grouped and instructed based on learning needs, and rotate to receive small group, need-specific instruction, followed by independent worktime. For this workshop model to be successful, students must be motivated by the rotation, and manage themselves with little need for teacher interruption. Enter iPads! iPads are a powerful and versatile tool for the classroom. With almost infinite applications available, students will not only be engaged, but also will receive instruction at academic levels and pace suited to their needs. Using iPads, they will develop fact fluency and gain technology skills as well. With the use of iPads, instruction can be easily differentiated to suit a multitude of instructional needs. Simply purchasing iPads for the classroom, however, does not guarantee effective support for students’ learning. For these students, the personalized instruction targeted to their needs is a key to boosting their achievement.
