For most of these pre-teens, this will be the first time they handle and use "real" art supplies. Some of the "real" art projects they will be creating: They will have the experience of painting using real canvas, high quality acrylics, and long handled brushes. It feels very different from using a boxed watercolor palette and copy paper! They will be able to hang these paintings in their room with pride when they finish their masterpieces! They will also be able to use oil pastels for the first time. The feel of the pastel as they smoothly glide over paper is like nothing else. The ability to blend pastel, to get your fingers dirty while creating something beautiful, is indescribable! They will be using alcohol inks and yupo paper, something most grown ups have never experienced (outside of the professional art world)! These will help my kids create amazing and beautiful illustrations, just like you see in pictures books. They will be using clay to make marbled ring dishes- a far cry from the clay pinch pots they might have made in elementary school! These will be beautiful pieces of art they can display proudly in their rooms for years to come. Finally, we will be learning about the long tradition of henna and practice creating henna designs on the multicultural paper. This will help enrich their understanding of art in other cultures. All of this is what you are giving the children in my Art Club when you donate to this project!
