We are all starting this school year with a lot of challenges due to this pandemic. Many of my students and their families were affected by what has been going on and I am going to do whatever it takes to ensure my students have the materials they need to be successful. My students love art and I know that especially during these times it plays a critical role in their lives both in and out of school. Art helps us express ourselves and share our experiences with each other. Providing individual art kits will not only alleviate the financial burden on parents but it will also ensure that each one of my students has what they need to fully participate each week for my distance learning art class. When this project is fully funded, I will be able to create individual art kits with the following materials: 2 pencils, 1 eraser, 1 sharpener, 1 glue stick, 1 pair of scissors, 1 set of markers, 1 set of crayons, 1 set of colored pencils, 1 set of oil pastels, 1 black sharpie, and 1 set of watercolors for each of my students to use while they are at home. Now more than ever, we should be uplifting and encouraging our students to use their voice and speak their minds. I know that with access to these art tools, all my students will be able to create art that is meaningful and empowering.
