It is my hope and intention that students will gain more perspective on the value of understanding other cultures. It is important for students to become culturally aware in order to accept and understand each other. Many of the problems we are experiencing in our country are due to misunderstandings between different cultures. Learning about other cultures, and seeing why others do the things they do, makes it easier to understand and develop sympathy with others. Students who learn about different cultures tend to feel more comfortable and safe with these differences later in life. This allows them to interact in a wider range of social groups and feel more confident in themselves as well as in their interactions with others. These materials will help Kindergartners celebrate the similarities and differences they have with each other. It will open opportunities for students to ask questions they may have and open conversations about stereotypes and bias'.
