Our students are creative, engaged, and enthusiastic, and chose to attend this school based on its focus on creative writing. Many of them have had no formal music instruction prior to middle or high school, but they love music. For our students, school is a safe place to express themselves through a variety of media and art forms, and I give them opportunities for expression in instrumental music. My background is in percussion, and I have found that drums are a very approachable instrument for young and beginning music students. It's an instrument family that easily allows for teaching and learning basic musical concepts as well as how to work together as an ensemble.

About my class
