All of my students enjoy and love playing in puddles and dirt! Why not bring the sense of exploration and fun into the classroom? Digging in sand or splashing in water have been proven to reduce the energy level of overexcited children and can be used not only as a learning tool but as an outlet for angry or frustration. Hand-eye coordination further develops with the use of water/sand play, but early physic concepts, such as water motion and capacity are developed. A sand/water table allows exploration to occur anywhere as it can be moved around and promotes cooperative play as children work side by side to discover letters, words, numbers, build words, practice sight word fluency...the possibilities are endless! A sand/water table would be used daily during center rotation.
