The students in my classroom are bilingual students in a Title 1 school, and come from low income and high poverty backgrounds. The typical student in my classroom comes from a family background that does not speak English as a first language, and usually does not read at grade level. They are part of one of the largest elementary school in the city with around 700 students. The opportunity and achievement gaps are apparent among our student population, with little funding available to provide the necessary resources for the students to thrive. Despite so many hardships, my students are eager to learn and do their best. They want to be in school because they want to learn all they can so they can be successful one day.
