Learning to use calculators, for students who struggle with math processing, is a functional life skill. Some students do not have the resources to purchase their own calculator. Having a set of calculators for students to access and learn to use appropriately is invaluable. Higher level math concepts are hard enough to master if you do not have a deficit in math processing. Calculators are a necessary tool to allow students to focus on how to work towards solving a problem instead of having to expel energy in trying to recall basic facts. Knowing how to use a calculator will not only benefit students in the classroom, it will also give them a skill they can use in their everyday life, now and after high school.
