I am an educator for a bilingual program at Spring ISD. Our school Ponderosal Elementary is a title I school, meaning that the majority of our students are part of the free lunch program and their families are eligible for a number of welfare benefits. My students come from very low income households. Many of them reside in run- down apartments that are usually crowded by members of extended family all living under the same roof. Although I have always bought materials for them using my own money, it seems that with every passing year, the school supplies and materials they need are getting more expensive. There have been times where carrying out a lesson plan becomes impossible because my students lack the materials needed for that particular lesson.
