As all early childhood educators know, play for children is just as important as the academic stuff. It is HOW children learn. Through play children explore the world around them, build their imaginations, solve problems, and learn social skills like cooperating with their peers. Many of these experiences take play in a dramatic play center in an early childhood setting. The toys and dress up clothes that are currently in my dramatic play center are outdated and scarce. By acquiring the materials I am requesting, my students will have opportunities to create new and engaging types of dramatic play. With the limited classroom money I receive from my district at the beginning of each year going towards construction paper, leveled readers, glue sticks, crayons, paint, etc., I never have enough left over for the "extra" stuff like dramatic play costumes. My students would be so excited to have more options than just the firefighter and chef we currently have.
