I am a librarian in an urban, public school of 600+ kinder to 8th graders. My students' economic situations are as diverse as their ethnic backgrounds. Our school is founded on a model of traditional instruction & my library classroom has print books & some computers. Though successful with traditional pen and paper tasks, my students need and deserve opportunities to develop digital literacy. My eager young readers want to be digital storytellers, & my intermediate and middle school students need to learn the critical skills of selecting, interpreting, & presenting information through digital media and by recording and sharing their conclusions.
