School of Breaking will come in and teach our kids how to demonstrate their creativity through dance. Breakdancing has a strong tie to African American and Latino culture which has influenced many cultures from around the world to embrace the art form. In our school we have a lot of students who don't know how to express themselves, struggle with a new language, or just love the art form. The School of Breaking would be an amazing outlet to help our students find healthy ways to regulate their emotions and find their creative voice through movement. Chase Evered has many years of experience teaching young students and owns a successful local studio. Dragon's Roar and so does our crew! In our little community, our students would work across grade level to support each other and form a bond through dance. They learn that they must work together to create and perform. They will make connections to the history of Breaking and what it provided for kids just like them. The students will learn to express themselves in a healthy way while learning self-discipline and building self-confidence. In the immortal words of Rita Pierson, "I am somebody. I was somebody when I came. I will be a better somebody when I leave. I am powerful, and I am strong. I deserve the education that I get here. I have things to do, people to impress, and places to go." We say this every morning, and I believe that through the power of dance our students can live and breathe this statement!
