My students have a very real need to have access to quality non-fiction library books that will provide them with essential vocabulary. Through the use of non-fiction texts and colorful pictures, the print that many of them struggle to read will come to life and provide a hook for not only learning to read but also learning about just a few of the many careers in our great country. Providing students with reading material on their independent reading level will increase their fluency, confidence, and make them successful readers and students. It’s never too early to begin career exploration. Reading about community workers and the jobs that they do is empowering. As we try and develop students (and their skills) to be successful and productive citizens, shiny new books will entice their curiosity and wet their appetites for knowledge.
