Growing up as an immigrant black child, I lived in the library. Books were my favorite companions. Sadly, however I hardly ever saw myself represented in the books I read. Now that I am a teacher, at a school with a majority minority population (54%+) - a great portion of these learners being ELLs (English Language Learners) - it is more important than ever that I increase the exposure and access to diverse texts. I want my learners to SEE themselves in the books they read and that are read to them. Please help me accomplish this ambitious goal! :)
