My students are strong-willed 6th graders who have a hard time sitting in their desks. If you have seen my desks, you would understand. They're cold, hard seats that don't allow for much comfort. Students learn better when they're in an environment that is comfortable. Teaching reading, I want to provide comfortable spaces for my students to read so that they can learn to love reading. I do not want their memory of reading class to be one where they were forced to sit and read in cold desks in table groups where people distract them from their learning. My students sometimes struggle with personal space and conflict resolution. By providing flexible seating spaces where they have the freedom to move elsewhere, my students will learn better and will want to be in class. My students do not come from the most comfortable of backgrounds. Help me give my students a safe and comfortable place to learn so that they will grow a lifetime love of learning!
