We are from the upper peninsula of Michigan, near the Michigan/Wisconsin border. Our school is an upper elementary school housing grades 4, 5, and 6. Much of the student population at our building qualify for the free and reduced hot lunch program. Most students cannot afford to buy their own highlighters as for many families in the area they would be considered a "luxury" item on the back to school list. Our school has dramatically reduced our classroom budgets and highlighters has become a "luxury" item for my ordering purposes as well. Educationally speaking, I feel they are an essential item on the back to school list. I can no longer afford to buy highlighters for my classroom as well as the other necessary items.
