I work at a vocational high school in North Philadelphia. 94% of my students receive free or reduced lunch, which is a strong indication of poverty. My students come from all over the city to attend this school, where they have the opportunity to earn the credits necessary to be accepted to college, while obtaining certifications and work experience in a specific vocational field. Vocational programs include Culinary Arts, Fire Academy, Dental, Health Related Technology, Construction, Auto Mechanics and Auto Body. My students, the class of 2017, are the first class that will be required to pass the state Keystone Exam to earn a diploma. My students desperately need the resources to begin preparing for both the Keystone Exams, and respective vocational certification tests.
