My students attend a small, rural school in an economically challenged area. The parental support is fantastic within the community. The school itself is facing challenges due to state budget cuts, and as a result, it will be difficult for us to obtain as many new books to add to the collection as we have in the past. The students also have a disadvantage from the perspective that the public libraries are not close to the town. There is a small library approximately twenty minutes away, and the county library is roughly thirty minutes away. However, neither one of these libraries have a collection that I feel really caters to the needs of the junior or senior high student. Circulation has increased dramatically over the last 5 years. The students are developing a love of reading, and I would like to develop a collection that furthers their passion.
