My students are a fifth grade class in a low socio-economic urban area of Nevada. Many of them speak Spanish at home and English at school. They are enthusiastic learners of reading and American History. My favorite part of my instructional day is our daily read-aloud, in which I get to share my love of literature with my students. The students enjoy the readings incredibly and I get to teach them great pieces of literature and some values contained therein. We also study American History at the fifth grade level. I am a Civil War enthusiast and it rubs off on my students. They work on projects throughout the history course, including a huge Revolutionary War project and a Civil War project.
