I teach at a middle school in a community that is labeled high-poverty. Most of my students are English Learners who are capable of academic success, yet continue to struggle. They desire to go to college and are identified as being on track for college admission, IF given a little extra push and encouragement. We are doing just that through a nurturing, supportive program called AVID- Advancement Via Individual Determination. This program helps prepare ALL students for college readiness and success. Most of these students will be the first in their families to attend college.

About my class
