KIPP Gaston College Preparatory is a public charter school serving 700 students in grades 5-12 who live in and around rural northeastern North Carolina. Our student body is 85% African-American with 65% being eligible for free/reduced lunch. In 2002-03 KIPP Gaston was named the sixth highest performing school in the entire state of NC out of 2,219 schools. By 2005 97% of our students were performing at or above grade level according to NC state tests and from 2009-11 100% of KIPP Gaston seniors were accepted to college-85% of these students will be first generation college graduates. At KIPP we are guided by the philosophy that "we learn not for school, but for life." We believe education is the most powerful weapon we have to fight for social justice and that our students will be the change agents in this country.
