My students attend a charter school, located in Southern California. Over 90% of the population is Latino/Hispanic and receive free and reduced lunch. Due to a shortage of funds, teachers and parents have to purchase EVERYTHING. Our campus is within walking distance from one of the largest housing projects in Southern California. My students are students are bright, respectful and eager to learn. There are many resources my students go without in their education and materials that will help them improving their reading should not be some of those materials. We will immediately use the leveled readers in small groups to help improve their reading fluency. Many of our students are English language learners, therefore I have requested phonics phones that are a special listening tool that will help students hear their pronunciation of words. Reading trackers are another manipulative students will benefit from to help them stay focused and on track when reading.
