Not only are my students from an economically deprived neighborhood, there is also a language barrier. Many of my students are English Language Learners (ELL) who are in varying stages of acquiring the English language. Thus the students attending my school comprise a population of 80-90% migrant students. These students are in double jeopardy; not only must they learn the English language but also the academic concepts regardless of when they are enrolled in school. These children are lovable and eager to learn the English language along with the academic skills I am teaching.
