My students are naturally creative and have inquisitive minds. They are eager to learn and try new things each day! Giving students the opportunity to manipulate clay into their own creations allows them to express themselves through the arts. Something that I love about clay is that it has a very forgiving nature to it. Children who may fear failure understand that they can learn and recover from moments that feel like defeat. Shaping clay gets our students' hands dirty and minds clear as they squish, roll, pinch, and push their way into the understanding that their actions influence the outside world and the art that they create. It can create confidence to pursue the ideas in their heads and challenge themselves. When it comes to children and pottery, the learning process is often more important than the final product. Knowledge gained through each creation helps gain self-worth and know that they can transform clay into a unique artistic piece.
