I teach first grade in a quiet suburb of Long Beach, CA. Approximately half of my students attend my school on a School of Choice waiver. Many come from low income areas and are hoping to get a better education for their children than they would at their home school. A handful of my students attended Kindergarten twice because they were lacking the skills needed to progress to first grade with their peers. These students attend speech, and several receive extra services in the areas of math and language arts. Students who struggle academically often look forward to Physical Education, and many of my struggling students tend to be my most athletically skilled . Sometimes this is their only opportunity "to shine!" They enjoy being the fastest runners, the best catchers, or the ones making the most baskets on the basketball courts. It is for this reason that I want to make my P.E. program the best that it can be!
