Our classroom is all about the cooking. I found that live demonstrations don't reach all my students - some tune it out, and if they miss something I can "go backwards" a step. At the beginning of this year I started spending hours after school shooting and editing my own YouTube-style tutorial videos for each cooking lab we do (I even throw in a few TikTok-esque transitions- they love those). I upload these to EdPuzzle and add questions that automatically get asked at strategic points during the video to check students' comprehension. Tutorial videos ensure that my students fully understand how to make the recipe before we get in the kitchen. My current conundrum is that I don't have enough working headphones for even one class. Without headphones, all the computer speakers are putting out audio at once and its very hard for students to concentrate. Having a classroom set of headphones would allow students to concentrate on the tutorial, and we could get in the kitchen faster. Thank you for your time!
